The historic tracker organ built by George Jardine & Son of New York in 1877 for St Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hoboken, NJ.

Twenty four stops, twenty-seven ranks, almost 1600 pipes.

Built in the year before Edison would invent his light bulb, this Jardine of 1877 was built without the aid of electricity and played solely by manual labor to fill its air reservoirs. Only at the turn of the century, the 20th century that is, was an electric blower added to provide a more constant and efficient air supply.

Still located in its original installation, built around the bell tower supports, it sounds today as it did more than 125 years ago. A marvel of technical engineering, this 1877 Jardine is a prime example of pipe organs being one of the most complex machines built in its era.

Also at St Matthew Trinity is a Steinway Model D concert grand piano, built in 1884 and recently restored. It now joins the Jardine in the sanctuary and is central to the growing music program of St Matthew Trinity Lutheran Parish.
