The Organ
Built by the firm of George Jardine & Son in their factory on East 39th Street in New York City, the organ remains a unique historic treasure being unchanged since its original installation in 1877. It was one of three Jardine's originally located in Hoboken, a square-mile city located on the Hudson River opposite the Chelsea section of Manhattan. Built and performed upon without the aid of electricity, being totally mechanical, it is a testament to the craftsmanship and quality of the Jardine family's work and craftsmanship to have created instruments which have survived into the 21st century without change - the one exception being the addition of an electric blower mounted literally in the bell tower to supply the needed wind. It consists of 24 ranks (or stops) totaling almost 1600 pipes and whose case is built of black walnut and oak. It continues to be used every Sunday and remains an exciting part of the musical life of Hoboken.
